Confident Group chairman CJ Roy's final moments at Bengaluru office: 'No confrontation, no grilling'
BENGALURU: Investigation into the circumstances that compelled Confident Group chief CJ Roy to shoot himself dead has taken an intriguing turn: cops maintain that Roy was not "grilled or subjected to intense questioning" by income tax officials minutes before he took his life.
While CCTV footage of the Confident Pentagon building (the headquarters of the real estate company in Langford Town) is yet to be made public, police sources said taxmen from Kerala did not engage in any confrontation with Roy.
In fact, they were huddled in a different room and there was no verbal argument with him, sources added.
"Friday's visit by I-T officials was not a raid. They had come to finalise a few issues with the documents they had prepared on the raids carried out in Dec. The I-T officials wanted to finalise the report before Feb 3 and, therefore, wanted some clarification from Roy. Also, they wanted a statement from him," a source said, adding: "As Roy went inside the building, he walked into his chamber along with the company's managing director TA Joseph after telling his staff that he would meet the I-T officials in the conference hall."
6.35mm bullet killed Roy
It was a 6.35mm bullet that pierced Roy's heart and killed him, doctors from Bowring Hospital who conducted an autopsy on Saturday said.
Medical superintendent Dr MN Aravind said they found one bullet inside Roy's body, and it had pierced the left side of the chest, scattered the heart and stomach, and stopped near the ribs in the back.
"The bullet did not exit his body. There were no other injuries on the body. According to our findings, Roy died of a bullet wound. He held the pistol in his right hand. Therefore, Forensic Science Laboratory experts are testing his palm and fingers for traces of gunpowder. Besides, we drew his blood and sent it to FSL for a DNA match," Aravind said.
Meanwhile, police said Roy used an Austria-made pistol.
