Bangalore: The battle for the labourer mafia in KR Market came on to the streets on Friday evening when Ganesha alias Gate Ganesha, 35, was hacked to death.
Around 8 pm, Ganesh was near Manjunatha Lodge in Kalasipalya and four or five persons, including Saravana, Suresh and Ravi of Kalasipalya, wielded choppers on him. The assailants are said to be associates of Vedi alias Vediyappan.

About two hours earlier, both gangs were in Kalasipalya to settle some dispute. After coming out of the police station, Ganesha was talking with his associates near the hotel when the rival gang attacked him.
Ganesha, from Pudukote in Tamil Nadu, was a supplier of labourers to the KR Market area and get commission for bringing men from Tamil Nadu. For the past decade, he had a firm grip on this business.
Ganesha was elected the town municipality councillor in Pudukote and tipped to be the next MLA candidate. The Kalasipalya police had opened a rowdy sheet on him. Things became turbulent after Vedi came entered the same business five years ago and gangsters like Sunil, Rohit alias Onte (all from Subrahmanyanagar) began taking shelter in Kalasipalya. Seeing a potential threat, Ganesha sent Saravana, Suresh and Ravi to be with Vedi.
On coming to know about this, Vedi gave a supari to these three to eliminate Ganesha. Two days ago, both gangs clashed over a trivial issue and went to the police station on Friday. Little did Ganesha know that it would his last visit to a police station.
