BANGALORE: After a lull, a possible takeover of a portion of Bangalore University land for commissioning a 66-kv power sub-station looms large.
The Bangalore University College Teachers Association (BUCTA) has urged the university syndicate to reconsider its decision on the issue. The syndicate meets on June 9 to discuss it.
BUCTA president Lokesh Kumar told TOI that the association has taken exception to the move.

"Providing land for academic activities is just fine, but not for an outside agency like KPTC. We'll chalk out a plan of action soon to protest any such move," he said.
Despite this statement, the mood among teachers is not upbeat in opposing the move. "No one seems to be bothered about what is happening," lamented a senior faculty member. It is learnt that despite stiff opposition by some syndicate members, those nominated by the government are vehemently trying to push the proposal. Power minister H D Revanna is learnt to have personally instructed the university registrar to expedite the procedure of handing over of the land at the earliest.
Dharna today
To give a fillip to the battle against encroachment of the BU campus, a dharna will be organised under the aegis of the Save Bangalore committee in front of vice-chancellor H A Ranganath's office on Friday at 11 am. Among those who will participate are freedom fighter H S Doreswamy, litterateurs Baraguru Ramachandrappa, K R Nagaraj, K Maralusidappa and Sudhra Srinivas.
