18-yr-old drowns in swimming pool

Bhopal: An 18-year-old youth died on the city outskirts on Saturday night. The incident was reported at Khajuri police station. Police said the deceased and his friends were in a swimming pool at a farmhouse when the incident took place.The police said the deceased was identified as Saifi, a resident of the Shahjehnabad area. Police said the youth and his five friends had booked the farmhouse and gone for a party. They ventured into the pool, which was around 8 ft deep, but the youth did not know how to swim. On spotting him drowning, his friends rushed out of the water and shouted for help.Police said there was no lifeguard in the swimming pool. There were two workers in the farmhouse, but they also did not know how to swim. They ran towards the local village to call for help.Police said the youth was eventually taken out and rushed to a private hospital and later to a govt hospital, but was declared dead. The police got information from the hospital. A post-mortem was conducted during the day and the body was handed over to the family members. A case against the owner of the farmhouse or the one responsible for the incident would be registered after recording the statement of the grieving family and ascertaining what actually happened that claimed the life of the youth, the police said, adding that the matter remains under investigation.
