BJP leader Uma Bharti tests positive for Covid-19, quarantined in Uttarakhand

On Saturday late night she gave the information about her illness through Twitter and appealed to those who had come in contact with her to get a Covid test done. She said she will remain in quarantine in Uttarakhand.

BHOPAL: Former Madhya Pradesh chief minister Uma Bharti has tested positive for novel coronavirus. Bharti had addressed a series of public rallies in Madhya Pradesh last week before she left for Uttarakhand. On Saturday late night she gave the information about her illness through Twitter and appealed to those who had come in contact with her to get a Covid test done.

She said she will remain in quarantine in Uttarakhand.

"I want to bring it to your notice that on the last day on my mountain journey I called up a Corona test team following the request by the administration because I had mild fever for the last three days. Despite following all legal prohibitions for Covid-19 and social distancing at Himalayas I have turned out to be Corona positive," the BJP leader tweeted late Saturday.
In a series of tweets Bharti further said, "Right now I am at Vande Mataram Kunj located between Haridwar and Rishikesh which is like my family. I will undergo a test again after four days and if the situation persists then I will take a decision in consultation with doctors."
The BJP leader also urged the people, who came into her contact, to get themselves tested for coronavirus. "All who came into my contact, I appeal to them to get their corona tests done and take precautions," she said.
On Sunday she tweeted again and said that she got infected through her driver who was Covid positive but unaware of it. "There were reports in a section of the media that I came in contact with the saints of Himalayas and got infected by corona. This is not true. I got infected by my driver and after he tested positive, I underwent Covid-19 test," she tweeted, on Sunday.

Bharti also said that required medical facilities were available in Rishikesh and AIIMS is just a few kilometers away. The administration of Pauri district is also very alert and concerned about her.
Bharti had addressed a series of public meetings with Madhya Pradesh chief minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan on September 14 and 15, ahead of bypolls on 28 seats in the state. On September 14, she was Mungaoli of Ashoknagar district and Mehgaon assembly area of Bhind district where she participated in the foundation laying of development works.
The BJP leader had also addressed rallies in Bada Malhera, in her home district Tikamgarh and Sanchi of Raisen district where she also attended a huge gathering of BJP workers. She however, left Bhopal last week, sources close to the leader said that all members in contact with her were being tested for Covid infection. She left Bhopal on September 17.
Bharti is among top BJP leaders in the state including chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, former Rajya Sabha member Prabhat Jha and several ministers and MLAs who had been infected from Covid-19 infection.
