All conductor-based transmission lines are to be converted into cable-based (less power cuts, thefts and chances of accidents). Besides, 550 new transformers are being set up for better load distribution and others. All this is being done with an investment of around Rs 250 crores.
“Tender process for laying the underground electricity cables is under process, thus work is likely to start within a couple of months. The work for construction of a new substation in Shaubhagya Nagar area has already started,” Zahid Aziz Khan, general manager (city circle), Madhya Kshetra Vidyut Vitaran Company Limited (MKVVCL), told TOI.
Sources said that discom has identified areas which are prone to power theft or where per unit revenue is less, such as Kabadkhana area, Kamla Park, Bhoipura, Satnami Nagar, Bhanpur, Bagh Umrao and others, where the power supply lines will go underground. These cables will ensure no power theft and also no disruption in power supply due to external factors like weather takes place.
Likewise, the new substation which is being built in Saubhagya Nagar is likely to improve energy distribution.
All these works, are being done under the RDSS (revamped distribution sector scheme) scheme of the government aimed at strengthening supply infrastructure of the discoms.
