BHOPAL: A small and kind gesture of a policeman at Damoh railway station on Tuesday won people's hearts.
Later, a related video showing the man in khakhi carrying an infant in his arms and walking down the railway platform also went viral.
Ravikant Shukla, a reserve inspector (RI) posted at the police lines in Damoh, went beyond the call of duty when amid the hustle and bustle of the railway platform, he saw a baby lying on the floor of the crowded platform.
"There was no movement in the baby when I first spotted it on the platform. I took the infant in my arms and looked around for the parents", Ravikant told TOI. He said soon he saw a man with his belongings walking towards the direction where the baby was lying.
"Soon, I realised that the mother and father were carrying their belongings over their heads and they were not in a position to carry their baby and baggage together", Ravikant said. The family had just arrived from Faridabad in a special train carrying labourers from Haryana.
Carrying the baby in his arms, Ravikant escorted them to the spot where screening of the labourers was taking place at the railway station. "After their screening, I saw them off to the bus which was to carry them to their village near Sagar", he said.
Ravikant's gesture has inspired and impressed many, said Damoh SP Hemant Chouhan. It has also further highlighted the humanitarian face of the police force, he added.
