BHOPAL: A speeding ambulance-van running in BRTS corridor on Hoshangabad Road in Misrod allegedly hit a middle-aged man crossing the BRTS corridor on Thursday afternoon. The errant ambulance driver did not stop and dragged the man for over 50 metres.
As the locals spotted the man stuck under the ambulance, they stopped the vehicle and took out the injured man. They thrashed the ambulance driver and vandalised the ambulance. Misrod police reached the spot and rescued the driver from angry locals and arrested him.
He was rushed to AIIMS hospital by the same ambulance where he was declared brought dead. Acting on information, a case was registered at Misrod police station.
SHO Misrod RB Sharma said that police received information around 3.30pm that a man was hit by a speeding ambulance in BRTS corridor on Hoshangabad Road in front of Surendra Landmark. When police reached the spot there was a van (ambulance of a private hospital in Bag Sewania). Police rushed the injured to AIIMS hospital by ambulance where he was declared brought dead. Nothing was found in his possession which could help in ascertaining his identity.
The deceased seemed to be aged around 50 years. He seemed to be a labourer. Police were trying to ascertain his identity.
SHO Sharma said that it was found that the ambulance was going from Bag Sewania towards Misrod. The deceased was crossing the road between Vrindavan Dhaba and Chinar Colony when he was hit by the ambulance. Locals told police that he was stuck under the ambulance but the driver did not stop the vehicle and dragged him.
