Bhopal: A letter, purportedly signed by 52 nurses of Gandhi Medical College, accusing medical superintendent Dr Deepak Marawi of harassment, led to an investigation on Wednesday. He has denied the allegations.
The letter was sent to the chief minister, DGP and Bhopal divisional commissioner. After medical education minister Vishwas Sarang ordered an inquiry, a five-member probe committee was set up and told to submit its report within 10 days.
Divisional commissioner Gulshan Bamra visited the hospital and spoke with GMC dean Dr Arvind Rai on the probe committee. The MP Human Rights Commission has also taken note of the complaint.
When Bamra and other senior officials went to the medical college, however, none of the nurses recorded their statement. The signatures on the letter are without full names and are part of the investigation, say sources.
In a letter to medical education commissioner Nishant Warwade, Marawi has denied the allegations and said that the complaint is a fallout of a new roster prepared for 875 nursing staff, which has angered some of them. Many nurses did not attend night duty, he has said.
Mahila Congress workers took out a protest march to the hospital but were stopped from entering the campus. Congress spokesperson Sangeeta Sharma tried to meet the aggrieved nurses but was blocked.
