Kendrapada: A Jajpur court on Monday sentenced a 32-year-old man to life imprisonment for murdering his father five years ago.
District and sessions judge Amrut Ranjan Nanda pronounced Gurucharana Behera of Bachalo village guilty under Section 302 (murder) of the IPC. The judge also imposed a fine of Rs 20,000 on the convict, failure to pay which would lead to an additional six-month sentence.
According to case records, Gurucharana killed his father, Baidhar Behera, on the night of Sept 29, 2020, over a property dispute. Police arrested the accused following a thorough investigation. “The verdict was delivered after examining 17 witnesses and 18 documents during the trial,” said public prosecutor Samarendra Das.
