Man assaulted, robbed by goon

Bhubaneswar: A group of alleged drug addicts reportedly assaulted a man and robbed him in Sailashree Vihar Phase-2 here late Monday night. The victim, Biswaranjan Das, 47, sustained serious head injuries and is currently undergoing treatment at a private hospital.

According to a complaint filed by his wife, Puspalata Das, 42, at Chandrasekharpur police station on Tuesday, Biswaranjan was returning home on his bike from Nimapada in Puri district when he was waylaid around 11.30 pm.

“One of the assaulters is a local goon and drug addict who was arrested earlier in multiple cases. He and his associates brutally attacked my husband with sharp weapons and snatched his gold chain and cash,” she alleged.

The FIR does not specify the number of attackers or whether Biswaranjan had any prior enmity with them. Police have launched an investigation. “The accused named in the FIR is absconding. We are searching for him and examining CCTV footage from the locality. The motive behind the attack will be clear after arrests,” said an officer of Chandrasekharpur police station.
