BERHAMPUR: Reports of alleged torture of Oriya workers from Ganjam district, presently working in a construction company in south Sudan, came to light once again.
Parents of the Oriya workers, who alleged their sons are going hungry in the foreign country, approached the district administration on Thursday, requesting to intervene and aid in their rescue.

Around 30 people from Haradanga village, under Rangeilunda block, and 20 people from Jayantipur and neighbouring areas of Patrapur block met district officials and the labour officer of Berhampur, pleading for their sons' return, who had gone for overseas jobs about six months ago.
"We have came to know that around 25 Oriya workers were arrested by police when they protested against their torture," the parents said.
A similar allegation was also reported about a month ago, when the workers from Orissa, mostly from Ganjam district, were reported to be languishing in Sudan hungry and penniless.
Several of them returned to their home country after the intervention of the state government, but several others stayed back with their employers promising to provide them descent salaries and other facilities.
District collector Krishan Kumar said he would ask the labour officer to inquire into the matter. "We will proceed in the matter after getting the reports," he said.
