PANCHKULA: Junior Basic Training (JBT) teachers who are on indefinite hunger strike demanding their demands to get jobs in the education department since September 5, on Sunday, even sacrificed drinking water and rued that they would lose their lives but not break the strike till their demands were met.
JBT teachers have been protesting behind the Shiksha Sadan in Sector 5 for 126 days and 14 out them have been on a hunger strike since Septembers 5, while four were also admitted at the Sector 6 general hospital.
Protesters said that their primary demand was for a permanent job in the education department since they had all qualified the exam and were eligible. Protesters said that the government was not showing any concern and they were not able to earn their livelihood. "We are able to work even though we are fully eligible for the job," the protesters said. President of JBT teachers welfare association Rajendera Sharma said, "The protesting teachers are suffereing from serious health concerns and are a risk of getting affected by diseases like dengue and malaria. The government must step in to ensure a solution in the matter."
