2026 starts with 17 promotions in Punjab Police, gets 1 new ADGP, 4 IGs, 12 DIGs
Chandigarh: Punjab govt has promoted inspector general Kaustubh Sharma, a 2001-batch IPS officer, to the rank of additional director general of police (ADGP). In all, there were 17 promotions in the force. Punjab home department issued an order in this regard on Dec 31, stating that Sharma was promoted to ADGP in Level-15 of Pay Matrix with effect from Jan 1.
The order also mentioned that in view of the recommendation of the screening committee, the names of Gautam Cheema and Paramraj Singh Umranangal were kept in sealed cover due to the pendency of criminal/disciplinary proceedings against the officers, and the sealed cover shall be opened after the finalisation of those proceedings. Umranangal superannuated on Dec 31, the day the order was issued.Punjab govt also promoted four police officers to the rank of inspector general (IG) with effect from Jan 1. The promoted officers are Jagadale Nilambari Vijay, Rahul S (on central deputation), Bikram Pal Singh Bhatty (on central deputation), and Rajpal Singh. The Dec 31 order on the promotion of officers as IGs also noted that in view of the recommendations of the screening committee, the name of IPS officer Inderbir Singh for empanelment for promotion to the rank of IG was kept in sealed cover due to the pendency of criminal/disciplinary proceedings against the officer, and the sealed cover shall be opened after the finalisation of those pending proceedings.In another order, the Punjab home department promoted 12 officers to the rank of deputy inspector general (DIG) with effect from Jan 1. The promoted officers are Snehdeep Sharma, Sandeep Goel, Jasdev Singh Sidhu, Dhruv Dahiya, Sandeep Kumar Garg, Gulneet Singh Khurana, Akhil Chaudhary, Amneet Kondal, Gurpreet Singh, Rupinder Singh, Sarabjit Singh, and Harpreet Singh Jaggi.The order on the promotion of officers as DIGs also noted that in view of the recommendations of the screening committee, the name of Vivek Sheel Soni was kept in sealed cover due to the pendency of disciplinary proceedings against the officer, and the sealed cover shall be opened after the finalisation of those proceedings.
