35 new farm fire cases in Punjab, tally now 9,753

Bathinda: Punjab reported 35 farm fire cases on Monday, taking the total number of crop residue burning incidents this season to 9,753. Ferozepur remained the worst-affected district, reporting the highest number of farm fire cases at 919 till May 25.At least 755 case were reported in Moga, followed by 746 in Bathinda, 714 in Tarn Taran, 705 in Amritsar, 692 in Sangrur, 641 in Gurdaspur, 629 in Ludhiana, 537 in Muktsar, 415 in Fazilka, 413 in Patiala, 413 in Jalandhar, 372 in Faridkot, 349 in Mansa, 346 in Barnala, 344 in Kapurthala, 236 in Hoshiarpur, 170 in Malerkotla, 145 in SBS Nagar and 122 in Fatehgarh Sahib. Three other reported less than 100 stubble burning cases.On Monday, Madhya Pradesh reported 140 cases, while Uttar Pradesh and Haryana logged 26 and 5 cases, respectively. Of the total 67,576 incidents so far this season, 57% have been reported from Madhya Pradesh (38,701).As per the ‘Consortium for Research on Agroecosystem Monitoring and Modeling from Space' (CREAMS), MP has reported over 50% of the crop residue burning cases in the last five years.
