MOGA: In separate incidents, Moga police on Thursday arrested four persons and recovered 1.5kg heroin worth Rs 7.5 crore from them. Those arrested include two brothers of Daulewala village. Two of the arrested had jumped parole and all four had been declared proclaimed offenders (PO).
Four cases of drug peddling under the NDPS Act have been registered against the accused. Daulewala resident Pipal Singh, 34, and
Nishan Singh, 32, were held with 300gm and 400gm heroin, respectively, on Thursday. Pipal is facing 11 cases under the NDPS Act and he was convicted in six cases with sentences ranging from seven to 10 years. He had jumped parole after being released from jail about four months ago and was subsequently declared a PO.
His brother Nishan has seven cases under NDPS Act registered against him. Nishan was sentenced to 10 years' imprisonment in three cases and 12 years' imprisonment in one case. He too had jumped parole nearly a year ago and was declared a PO by a Moga court.
In another incident,
Ranjit Singh of Kot Mohammad Khan village was arrested by the district narcotics cell with 500gm heroin. A case has been registered against him at Dharamkot police station. He had a drug peddling case registered against him in 2014 at Jagraon Sadar police station and was declared a PO.
Meanwhile, Tarsem Singh of Sherpur Takhtuwala village was arrested by a CIA team with 300gm heroin. A case has been registered against him at Ajitwal police station. Tarsem was facing four cases under the NDPS Act at Zira, Moga, Fatehgarh Panjtoor and at Makhu (Ferozepur).
Moga senior superintendent of police Charanjit Singh said, "A special drive has been launched against drug peddlers under which four peddlers were caught on Thursday and 1.5kg heroin worth Rs 7.5 crore has been recovered from them."
