CHANDIGARH: Students swarmed the city colleges to grab a seat in their preferred course on Day 2 of counselling for admissions on Tuesday. The rush was as heavy as the first day. And the problems that parents and students faced a day earlier continued to annoy them.
Gurwinder Singh, a student seeking admission to Post Graduate Government College, Sector 11, said, "I had to stand for more than an hour to get a form for hostel accommodation.
Now, I will again have to spend hours to submit fee for the same."
Ishan Kumar, a student seeking admission to BA first year in the same college, said, "I came to the college late at noon and no official was there to guide us. I got to know about the admission procedure from my friends and members of a student party."
Neeraj Budhiraja, a resident of Batala, too faced a difficult time at DAV College, Sector 10. He said, "The management did not assist us. There is a reservation for single girl child in every college and we had original documents for the same. Another girl belonging to the same category had scored higher marks than my daughter and we knew that she deserved the seat on merit basis. However, she did not have an original document that is necessary, but still managed to secure the seat in the college."
Mani Bedi, principal of Post Graduate Government College for Girls in Sector 42, said, "We have received quite a high number of applications as compared to the last year. We have also introduced a new course that is one-year PG diploma in cyber crime which we will be starting from this academic session."
"Officials have been strictly told to remain in office till 2.30pm. If they are not following the direction, then stern action will be taken," said Arun Aggarwal, dean (admissions) at DAV college.
