Chandigarh: To celebrate the 104th birth anniversary of Marshal of
Air Force Arjan Singh, the fourth edition of Marshal of the Air Force Arjan Singh Memorial Hockey Tournament-2023 is being organised by Air Force Sports Control Board at Raghbir Singh Bhola Hockey Stadium, 3 BRD Air Force Station, Chandigarh from April 10 to 15. A total of 12 teams including Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and United Kingdom Air Force are participating in the event, making it an international tournament.
Air Marshal Vibhas Pande, Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Maintenance Command, who was the chief guest on the opening ceremony, declared the tournament open. He said, “We are delighted to be back with the Marshal of the Arjan Singh Memorial Hockey Tournament, which is a prestigious tournament in the country. This tournament will provide a platform to elite hockey teams of the country and Indian Air Force will ensure that no stone is left unturned in the smooth conduct of the tournament.” The hockey tournament is a fitting tribute to the Air Force legend, he added. Veteran hockey players were felicitated and various cultural programmes were presented during the opening ceremony. The opening match was played between Indian Air Force (IAF) and Chandigarh XI. The Chandigarh XI team won the match by 3-1 goals. The chief guest presented a cheque of Rs 10,000 to the man of the match, Bikramjit Singh, goalkeeper of Chandigarh XI.
