Bomb threat email targets Haryana mayor’s office and temples; security tightened
PANCHKULA: A bomb threat e-mail targeting the Panchkula Mayor’s Office and several prominent temples prompted an immediate security response on Thursday.
MC Commissioner Vinay Kumar amd other staff was asked to vacate the premises. Following which, the police carried out checking inside the complex.
According to officials, authorities received a threatening e-mail claiming that explosive devices would be used to target the Mayor’s Office as well as a number of religious places in Panchkula. The contents of the message triggered concern within the administration and security agencies.
Soon after the threat came to light, Panchkula Police and other security agencies launched an investigation. Security measures were strengthened at sensitive locations, while officials began assessing the credibility of the threat.
Police sources said the e-mail specifically mentioned several temples, prompting authorities to increase surveillance and security checks at religious sites. Bomb disposal squads and other security units have been kept on alert as a precautionary measure.
The Cyber Cell has also been roped in to trace the origin of the e-mail and identify the person or group responsible for sending it. Investigators are examining technical details related to the message and coordinating with relevant agencies as part of the probe.
Officials have urged the public not to panic, while assuring that all necessary precautions are being taken to ensure public safety. They added that the situation is being closely monitored and that appropriate action will be taken once the source of the threat is established.
Police have not yet commented on the authenticity of the threat.
