Chandigarh-Howrah summer special train gets overwhelming response

Chandigarh: Northern Railway's Summer Special Train between Chandigarh and Howrah gets overwhelming response as the train departs and arrives with full capacity.Northern Railway spokesperson said that to manage the increased passenger rush during the summer season, Northern Railway has announced the operation of special reserved trains between Chandigarh and Howrah under the Traffic on Demand (TOD) scheme. A total of three trips will be operated in each direction.The Chandigarh-Howrah Reserved Special Express departed from Chandigarh on April 18, and will depart on April 22 and April 27 as well. The train will run from Howrah on April 20, April 24 and April 29.Officials at Chandigarh Railway Station said the train departed with full capacity from Chandigarh. The train has two categories of coaches, sleeper class with fare Rs 885 and third AC with fare Rs 2,195. The train scheduled for April 22 has a waiting list of 45 in sleeper class and 34 in third AC.Similarly, the train departed Howrah on Monday with a waiting list of 57 in sleeper class and 43 in third AC.As per the schedule, the train departing from Chandigarh will leave at 11.45 pm and reach Howrah at 6.30 am on the second day, covering the journey in approximately 30 hours and 45 minutes. On the return leg, the train will depart from Howrah at 9 am and arrive in Chandigarh at 7.20 pm, taking around 34.20 hours.The special train will halt at major stations en route, including Ambala Cantt, Saharanpur, Moradabad, Bareilly Junction, Shahjahanpur Junction, Sultanpur, Varanasi Junction, Pt Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Junction (Mughalsarai), Gomoh near Dhanbad, Gaya, Bandel and Howrah.Railway officials said the move is aimed at easing travel during the peak summer period by providing additional reserved accommodation for passengers travelling between northern and eastern regions. The introduction of these services is expected to reduce waiting lists and offer more confirmed ticket options, while also strengthening connectivity across key routes.
