CPA Zone-II meet to go green with all-electric transport for delegates

Chandigarh: The upcoming Zone-II Conference of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) India Region will place a strong emphasis on frugality and environmental sustainability, with delegates to be transported exclusively in electric buses to reduce fuel consumption.Inspired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi's emphasis on prudent resource use and environmental conservation, Haryana Vidhan Sabha Speaker Harvinder Kalyan has directed officials to ensure minimal and efficient expenditure during the June 8-10 CPA India Region conference in Chandigarh. In view of this, six electric buses have been deployed to ferry delegates.According to the schedule, delegates will first be transported from the Haryana and Punjab MLA Hostels and other accommodations to Haryana Lok Bhawan in the morning, where a luncheon will be hosted by Haryana governor Prof Ashim Kumar Ghosh. During this engagement, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla is expected to hold brief interactions with presiding officers.Later in the day, delegates will travel by e-buses to the Haryana Vidhan Sabha for the inaugural session, which will include a ceremonial guard of honour for the Lok Sabha Speaker, followed by a group photograph. After the session, participants will proceed to Tagore Theatre for a cultural programme highlighting constitutional values and democratic traditions.Throughout the event, the Haryana Vidhan Sabha Secretariat has ensured that all official transportation will be handled exclusively through electric buses, with movement coordinated between key venues, including Haryana Lok Bhawan.Speaker Harvinder Kalyan said the arrangements aim to demonstrate how parliamentary events can combine governance with environmental responsibility.
