‘Defend democracy & federalism’: SKM urges farmers to mark R-Day with peoples’ march

Bathinda: Sanyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM) called upon farmers to participate in the ‘People's March' on Jan 26 to observe the 77th Republic Day as the ‘day of the people' and join en masse with a tractor parade, vehicle or motorcycle rallies, and mass demonstrations.At its national council meeting on Jan 11, the SKM called for the ‘People's March' on Republic Day afternoon, in coordination with agricultural and rural workers, while ensuring it did not disrupt the official Republic Day parade, to safeguard constitutional rights and principles of democracy, secularism, and federalism. The NDA govt unleashed a series of attacks on working people through the Electricity Bill 2025, four Labour Codes, VB-GRAMG Act 2025, the Seeds Bill 2025, the Insurance Act 2025, the New Education Policy, and the National Cooperation Policy, among others, stated SKM in a release on Saturday, adding that all these legislations are aimed at curtailing the federal rights of the states and converting India into a unitary system of governance, thus attacking the fundamental features of the Indian Constitution.
