Panchkula: With Panchkula reporting 20 fresh cases of dengue, the total count has gone up to 641 in the district so far. Various teams of the health department have been visiting the disease hotspots in the district and conducting source reduction activities besides creating awareness among the public.
Health officials said out of the fresh cases, 11 were reported from Panchkula, four cases from Pinjore, two cases from old Panchkula, one case each from Raipur Rani, Kalka and Surajpur.
The district data shows that out of 641 cases, the maximum cases reported in the district are from urban area of Panchkula (285 cases and 1 dengue related death), followed by old Panchkula area, where 117 dengue cases have been reported so far. In Surajpur area of Pinjore, 101 dengue cases have been reported; and in Pinjore, 77 cases have come to light so far.
In Kalka, 27 cases have been reported, 9 cases in Kot, 8 cases in Raipur Rani, 7 each in Morni and Nanakpur village, and 3 cases in Barwala.
Civil surgeon Dr Mukta Kumar said dengue prevention activities are being carried out jointly by the health department and municipal corporation. As many as 48 teams of health workers are working in urban and rural areas of the district. Dr Mukta Kumar said indoor fogging is most effective in dengue prevention.
A separate fever clinic has also been started in Sector-6 civil hospital in which blood slides of fever patients are also being made. Officials said a meeting of the health department and private doctors will be held to take all necessary steps to prevent dengue.
The civil surgeon said there is no problem of logistics at the block and district level. “SDP kits are available in sufficient quantity. Various teams are also conducting door-to-door campaigns to check larvae,” he said.
