Mohali: A case of alleged desecration came to light in Sohana village of Mohali on Wednesday as damaged pages of the Gutka Sahib were found near Mata Gujri Devi Gurudwara, located close to Gurudwara Singh Shaheedan, Sohana.
After the incident, locals blocked Mohali's Airport Road demanding action against the culprits.
In his complaint to police, Kharar resident Charanjit Singh said at 11.10pm on Tuesday, he and Manpreet Singh were returning home on his motorcycle after performing service at Gurdwara Singh Shaheedan, Sohana. When they were passing in front of Mata Gujri Devi Gurudwara, they noticed that pages of the Gutka Sahib had been desecrated and were scattered on Airport Road.
They collected the pages and informed the congregation at Gurdwara Singh Shaheedan, Sohana, who assisted in preserving the pages. The desecration was done by unknown individuals, and legal action should be taken against them once identified, he demanded in a complaint to the police.
Protesters alleged that the act was deliberately carried out to disturb communal harmony in the area. In view of the tension, Mohali DSP (city II) Harsimran Singh Bal reached the spot. He pacified the protesters and assured them that police were treating the matter with seriousness. The DSP said an FIR had been registered under Section 299 of BNS against unknown individuals.
