Dhanas lake lacks amenities, care
CHANDIGARH: Dhanas lake could have been another frequently visited green zone by city residents, if only it had proper attention from the civic authorities. Even the batteries of the solar lights have been stolen from the spot, leave aside basic amenities, such as parking or lighting at the lake.
The resident welfare association of Dhanas has brought this mismanagement to the notice of the governor but nothing has been done in this regard.
1x1 polls

Housing board welfare association (Dhanas) president Sukhdev Singh says the amenities were never there since the lake was opened in 2004, but they thought the site will be gradually developed, which did not happen. "Without building up washrooms or drinking water taps, the lake was inaugurated in 2004," says Sukhdev.
Dhanas resident Harjeet Kaur says she takes her children for a walk to the lake. "But, there is not even a single shop to get some refreshment for the kids," she adds.
Anil Bansal from Dhanas says the footpaths were installed when the lake was opened to public in 2004, but have never been repaired or replaced since then. For Mukesh Kumar it is the parking woe which keeps him from coming to the lake for a walk.
Rahul Mahajan from the localilty says the lake is a blessing for them. "We do not even need to look at Sukhna if this lake is maintained properly," he adds.
UT chief engineer S K Chadha says the Dhanas lake does not come under their jurisdiction and the forest department should take care of it. Chief conservator of forest Santosh Kumar says he will look into the matter and ensure proper upkeep of the lake.
Area councillor Subhash Chawla says he will discuss with the forest department to bring the lake under MC's purview for its better upkeep.
