Farmers to protest at homes of AAP MLAs, ministers on March 31 over police action
Bathinda: Angry over police action against farmers on March 19, farm forums Sanyukt Kisan Morcha (Non-Political) and Kisan Mazdoor Morcha (KMM) have decided to hold protests at the residences of AAP ministers and MLAs in Punjab on March 31.
Initially, the protests will last a day. But, if their demands are not met, farm activists could extend their stir to an indefinite period. They will also support protest demonstrations announced by SKM at DC offices across Punjab on March 28. A meeting will also be organised at Gurdwara Nathana Sahib in Jandmangoli village. The decisions were taken in a joint meeting of both farm forums to take stock of the prevailing situation in light of police action and the arrest of farm leaders.
Farm leaders said their demands included immediate release of all farmers arrested on March 19 and 20, all stolen belongings of farmers be traced and handed back, fair compensation should for untraceable belongings, and action against those who stole the belongings or conspired for it. They also demanded action against policemen for mercilessly beating up farm leader Balwant Singh Behramke on March 20 and action against AAP MLA who aides were allegedly behind the theft of tractor-trailers.
They also stated that the protests will continue even as protest sites at Shambhu and Khanauri have been vacated.
