CHANDIGARH: UT sent across a strong message to educational institutes when, on Thursday, the home secretary (HS) decided to mark a vigilance inquiry against the principal and some teachers of Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 45, following the report of a sub-divisional magistrate (SDM) who probed allegations of students being overcharged for their diaries and identity cards.
Receiving the document from SDM (south) Prerna Puri, HS Ram Niwas said, A vigilance inquiry will be conducted against the principal and teachers found guilty during probe.
UT also asked school authorities to refund the money collected from students under various unauthorized heads.
Earlier this month, Niwas had asked Puri to look into allegations after a written compliant to the district education officer (DEO) from parents about being overcharged by school authorities.
The SDMs document stated that principal Alka Mehta and a few teachers indulged in unauthorized collection of Rs 45 per child for the school diary and I-card.
No proper account was maintained by teachers Surinder Kaur and Neelam Thakur, who were assigned the task.
Corporal punishment allegations levelled against Narinder Shastri also came true with the SDM confirming that the Hindi teacher manhandled students who refused to sign a circular stating that only Rs 25 had been collected from them for the same.
Seeking a probe into past irregularities, the inquiry brought to light missing bills of various purchases made by the school.
Puris inquiry also pointed out that every child contributed Rs 5 a month towards Parent Teacher Association (PTA) fund, in violation of rules.
