Sources told the police sought his remand but the same was not granted by court, as the lawyers for accused Gulati argued that he was already taken into custody for a day.
Sources said the lawyers of Gulati also presented to the court some CCTV video footage evidence in the court of him going towards the police station.
On the complaint of Manish Garg of Grain Market, Pehowa in Kurukshetra district, the Ambala police booked Ashish Gulati and his cousin brother Lakshya Dutt under Section 120-B (criminal conspiracy), 406 (criminal breach of trust) and 420 (cheating) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at Ambala Cantonment police station on Friday.
The complainant had marked his complaint to Haryana home minister Anil Vij, who ordered investigation.
Manish stated in his complaint, “On March 11, 2023, I met Lakshya Dutt at food court in Ambala Cantonment, where he acquainted me with his relative Ashish Gulati, while identifying his as OSD to Anil Vij who said the minister is his taya (paternal uncle). In front of me, Gulati called SP (Kurukshetra) Surender Bhoria and talked regarding my FIR file 189/19 of Pehowa Sadar. Gulati assured me that he will help in getting return of my money i.e. Rs 1,31,63, 409. He also said that if I had any work related to the police department regarding recruitment, etc. he can help me. Gulati assigned Lakshya to remain in contact with me on his behalf for resolving my grievance and took Rs 2 lakh for this work.”

"A week later, Lakshya promised to help in getting my money with interest and that I will get about Rs 1.87 crore. He said this agreement will be done through DSP Gorakhpal Rana. Then Lakshya asked me for recruitment of a sub-inspector (SI) and sought Rs 18 lakh for it. I told this to my zimidar Vikram Singh of Bakhli village and he gave the name of his brother-in-law Abhishek. Vikram paid Rs 11 lakh from his HDFC bank account and Rs 7 lakh in cash for getting his relative recruited as SI. Lakshya sent an order of Abhishek’s appointment as SI which mentioned a belt number and mentioned about joining at Madhuban on May 20, 2023. For this Lakshya demanded Rs 8 lakh and Vikram transferred Rs 7 lakh from his wife’s account to Lakshya account," alleged Manish.
Manish alleged that despite assurances of all the promises, the accused duped him and Vikram of Rs 27 lakh in total. He sought police action against the BJP leader.
Despite repeated attempts, Ambala superintendent of police (SP) Jashandeep Singh, Ambala Cantonment SHO inspector Naresh Kumar, did not respond to calls for their version.
