Haryana police chief terms extortionists beggars, says they will be weeded out; list priorities to strengthen crime control

Chandigarh: A multi-pronged approach to monitor the activities of hardcore criminals, history-sheeters and those on bail, combined with intensified and focused intelligence gathering to break drug trafficking and human trafficking cartels, were some of the priorities listed by the head of police force O P Singh during a specially convened meeting of the IPS officers posted in the state."Zero tolerance of crime and criminals is our topmost priority at all times. We managed to get the deportation of 11 criminals and gangsters from abroad. There is zero delay in acting against gangsters. As far as the approach is concerned, we are monitoring the activities of gangsters lodged in jail as well as those who managed to get bail," said Singh.
"We developed our own input system to monitor those who are out on bail, and officers have strict instructions to get their bails cancelled from court after noticing their illegal or criminal acts," he added.Besides this, we already sent out a strong message to the parokars (advocates) of the criminals for any kind of support, and we reiterated being strict with those who directly or indirectly support or harbour such criminals, the DGP said during his interaction with the mediapersons at Karnal after the meeting, on Sunday .The meeting reviewed terror-related incidents reported in recent years and noted with satisfaction that recent cases were successfully traced without any loss of life. The DGP stressed the need for stronger coordination with the central and other investigating agencies to ensure swift, coordinated and result-oriented responses to any future threats."They are not extortionists but just beggars. We have a 70,000-strong force equipped with modern weapons, state-of-the-art infrastructure, and various tools. They will be weeded out of society. Our main focus is to maintain and sustain the faith of people in the police," said Singh.At the same time, we are also strictly monitoring social media platforms, which are generally used to lure innocent young minds, he said.A high-level review and strategy meeting was convened at the Haryana Police Academy, Madhuban, to finalise the crime control roadmap, priorities and action plan for the year 2026. The meeting was chaired by the director general of police, Haryana, O P Singh, and attended by all senior IPS officers, including ADGPs, IGs, police commissioners, DIGs, and other senior functionaries.Emphasising continuity and consistency, the DGP said the level of effectiveness and success achieved by the Haryana Police in recent years must not only be maintained but further strengthened. Officers were instructed to maintain relentless pressure on criminal elements and ensure visible, deterrent policing across the state.Reiterating the govt's zero-tolerance policy against narcotics, the DGP directed that detailed history sheets of offenders involved in the NDPS cases should be prepared. Their illegally acquired properties should be identified and frozen under due legal process to dismantle the economic backbone of drug networks, he added.Singh also instructed that rehabilitation and de-addiction centres be periodically reviewed to assess successful recovery outcomes.MSID:: 126215918 413 |
