ADAMPUR (JALANDHAR): President
Ram Nath Kovind on Thursday awarded President’s Standards to two units of Indian Air Force — 223 Squadron and 117 Helicopter Unit — for history of excellence at the Adampur Air Force station. On Thursday, he awarded the standards to the officers of both units and complimented them. The President also released information brochure on both units on the occasion.
In his address, President
Kovind recalled the glorious legacy of the Indian armed forces in protecting the unity, integrity and sovereignty of the country.
He said every citizen got a sound sleep in their homes because they were aware that valiant soldiers were safeguarding the borders of the country. He also said that he was fortunate to be in
Punjab, which was the land of sainiks (soldiers) and saints.
Earlier, the President took salute during an impressive march past from the officers of the IAF. Prominent among those present on the occasion included: IAF chief Air Chief Marshal Birender Singh Dhanoa, Punjab governor V P Singh Badnore and his wife Alka Singh, Punjab irrigation and power minister Rana Gurjit Singh and Jalandhar MP Chaudhary Santokh Singh. On the occasion, several serving officers of the IAF and veterans were also present.
The ceremonial parade was commanded by Group Captain Tushar Vaidya. The President also released First Day Covers of 223 Squadron and 117 Helicopter Unit at the function. A fly past consisting of MiG-29, ALH and Mi-17 helicopters was synchronized with significant events of the parade. The parade was followed by a spectacular display of precision and daredevilry by the Air Warriors drill team. An aerial show by the Sarang and
Dhruv helicopters and Surya Kiran aerobatic team of the IAF regaled the audience.
