LUDHIANA: While others are waiting for Goddess Luxmi to visit their households on Diwali, she has already blessed Ravinder Ravi, who is singing all the way to the bank.
Singing��that's what has changed his life. A daily-wage worker, Ravi used to fend his family from a jhuggi in Valmiki colony here.
Then came Indian Idol, a popular reality music TV show��he was voted among the top five contestants. And it was not the same again.
Even Diwali, when earthen diyas lit up his house and celebrations rolled out on the steam of his meagre earnings from white washing others' houses, won't be the same.

Now it's a pucca house and there will be designer lights. But Ravi will not be a part of the celebrations as he is away to Mumbai, shooting for a TV show.
"Probably this is the price I have to pay for being a professional artiste. I believe my wife and kids understand this," he told TNN over the phone from Mumbai. However, his wife, Mousmi, and three kids do not feel bad about it since his absence has become a routine affair.
Most of the time, Ravi is away doing shows all over the country. "So what if he is away. We know he is earning for us. Moreover he is just a phone call away," said Mousmi before leaving for the market to make Diwali purchases along with kids.
Undoubtedly, a fixed telephone line and a mobile phone keep the family, which struggled to make ends meet some months back, together.
Ravi is flooded with contracts for shows within the country and even abroad. He will be flying to Dubai and Norway shortly. Besides luxury gadgets, he intends to buy a car for his family.
The sudden change in fortune has not gone to his head. He only got the face of his house changed but not its location. He has become more humble. "Whatever I have achieved is by the grace of God," he repeatedly said.
