Man rapes Facebook friend

AMRITSAR: A man from Amritsar allegedly raped a Delhi woman, who he befriended on Facebook, on the pretext of marriage, but later tried to get rid of her by faking a medical problem. Peeved over betrayal and sexual exploitation, the women lodged an FIR.
Amritsar police commissioner J S Aulakh informed TOI on Sunday that Ramnit Singh, a 30-year-old moviemaker, befriended a girl (name withheld) from Delhi on Facebook.In a short span of time, both became good friends and also exchanged their phone numbers and e-mail IDs.
In the first week of September, Singh invited the girl to visit Amritsar and also booked rail tickets and a room for her in a private hotel in Ranjit Avenue for her. In her complaint, she has alleged that the two entered into physical relations as Ramnit promised to marry her. She returned to Delhi thereafter, and when she asked him to marry her, he began dilly-dallying, including faking physical illness. She became doubtful and registered a zero FIR in Delhi.
Additional deputy commissioner of Police Gaurav Garg said that the girl arrived in Amritsar along with Delhi Police, following which they transformed her zero FIR into a regular one. Ramnit has been arrested and Amritsar Police have procured his remand.
