MC plans 60 TPD horticulture waste processing plant
Chandigarh: The municipal corporation (MC) plans to set up a 60 TPD horticulture processing plant to manage the city's horticulture waste. The engineering wing intends to implement bio-fuel briquetting technology, considering the high market demand and excellent sale value of bio-fuel.
Since the engineering wing of the MC worked out the financial estimate, the authority has prepared a budget of around Rs 4 crore for the project. The MC has divided the project into three components, each requiring separate tenders. The first part, operation and maintenance, has been allocated over Rs 2.72 crore. A plan for civil work has been prepared with a budget of Rs 80 lakh. The authority has estimated Rs 40 lakh for electrical substation work, and around Rs 5 lakh has been set aside for contingency charges.
The financial estimate document of the project states that around 12 TPD of pruned horticulture waste is received and processed at the horticulture waste processing plant. The MC has compost pits at 104 sites inside parks with a capacity of 32 TPD, where horticulture waste is processed into compost. Currently, the waste is being dumped at the designated site in Dadumajra.
The document further explains that the leftover horticulture waste will be processed scientifically. The collected waste will be fed into the plant, segregated from impurities, screened for dust, ground, dried, and compacted into briquettes. The plant will also generate around 10% inert material, which will be transported to designated areas. The machinery will be set up in Industrial Area Phase 2.
