CHANDIGARH: The 23rd anniversary of Featherweights, a unit that operates Mi-26 operating unit, the largest helicopter flying today, concluded with great military pageantry and pride on Tuesday. In keeping with the engagement on high altitude, the celebrations stretched on to suit both the unit task and anniversary. The unit conducted Bara Khana for airmen and families and a social evening at the officers? mess.
Men in blue spared no efforts in making these celebrations memorable while remembering their glorious past. Both these events were preceded by a rousing show of cultural talent within the unit.
Air Cmd SRK Nair, Air Officer Commanding, Air Force Station Chandigarh graced both the events as chief guest and congratulated the unit personnel. Wing Cdr Shankar Srivastava, the commanding officer of Featherweights, addressing the audience, highlighted the past and achievements of the unit and congratulated all unit personnel on the occasion.
Mi-26 has an impeccable track-record and an undying legacy. This majestic flying machine was inducted in Indian Air Force in 1986 and has been undertaking tasks of immense national importance to places where many dare not venture. The unit regularly operates in Siachen glacier and has taken upon itself varied missions to all corners of the country, be it for military operations or civil aid.
