Mohali betters rank, but pass-rate slides

Mohali: Even as it climbed a rung in Punjab’s district-wise rankings, Mohali registered a marginal dip in its overall pass percentage in the Punjab School Education Board (PSEB) Class X results declared on Monday.The district recorded a pass percentage of 95.26% in 2026, down from 96.6% in 2025, though it improved its state ranking to 10th, up from 11th last year. According to PSEB data, 9,039 students appeared for the examination from Mohali district, of whom 8,611 passed.Amritsar topped the state with a pass percentage of 98.41%, followed by Ferozepur (98.39%) and Pathankot (97.99%). Among neighbouring and major districts, SAS Nagar fared better than Sangrur, Patiala, Bathinda, Barnala, Mansa and Ludhiana. Ludhiana recorded the lowest pass percentage in the state at 89.20%.In 2025, Mohali had posted a pass rate of 96.6%, marking an improvement in rank from 13th in 2024 to 11th, though that figure itself was slightly lower than the 96.89% recorded in 2024.Performance in the merit list remained limited. This year, three students from SAS Nagar district—one boy and two girls—featured in the state merit list. In comparison, the district had also produced three merit holders in 2024, ranked 12th, 17th and 19th.
Across Punjab, 272 students secured positions in the state merit list, with Ludhiana leading with 38 merit holders, followed by Amritsar (31) and Hoshiarpur (27).At the state level, 2,69,505 students appeared for the matriculation examinations, of whom 2,54,744 passed, taking Punjab’s overall pass percentage to 94.52%. PSEB data showed rural students outperforming their urban counterparts, with pass percentages of 95.35% and 92.98% respectively. Girls continued to outperform boys, securing a pass percentage of 95.96%, compared to 93.23% among boys.
