CHANDIGARH: Aman, of Nayagaon, Mohali, lost his parents when he was just two years old. And, being looked after by his uncle and aunt, who work as daily wagers and earn around Rs 3,000 per month, education was a distant dream. However, now Aman studies in pre-nursery in a local school, thanks to Nanhe Kadam, a non-profit organization, which takes care of the education and health of the likes of Aman in and around Chandigarh.
A brainchild of Aneesh Deepak, Tania Goel, Saurabh Agarwal and Misha Pratap, Nanhe Kadam comprises professionals and students, each of whom strive to create a difference, with a vision to empower socially deprived and economically disadvantaged children through better health and education, and offer them a stepping stone to realize their dreams.

Aneesh said, 'Our activities include providing education to disadvantaged children through 'child sponsorship' programmes, volunteer teaching activities at village schools, material support and conducting periodic health camps for slum children.'
It has initiated specially designed courses, like 'Baatein Computer Ki', a course for students as well as teachers, a number of tutorial programmes, talent building activities and performance appreciation events for children of all age groups and helped sponsor education of 20 children for a minimum period of one year.
Volunteers are the heart and
soul of all activities at Nanhe Kadam. As Sanjam K Vilkhu, an MBA candidate at NIPER, said, 'What appealed to me the most was the result oriented approach, linear set up, and the freedom to express our ideas. I have led a lot of projects at Nanhe Kadam.'
'We are looking to expand our activities outside Chandigarh and join hands with more organizations. There are a multitude of impediments in front of us, but optimism rules the roost,' signed off this spirited team.
