‘Oil leak’ ruse costs Chd man Rs 1.5L

Chandigarh: A Sector 46 resident fell victim to the ‘oil leak’ distraction trick and lost a bag containing around Rs 1.5 lakh in cash in Sector 45. Sector 34 police have registered a case and launched an investigation.

Complainant Pratham Sharma told police that he had gone to a private hospital in Sector 45 on Saturday to attend to a relative. After parking his car outside, he went inside for treatment.

When he returned and was about to leave, a man in his 30s approached him, claiming that oil was leaking from his car’s engine. On checking, Pratham noticed oil spilled near the vehicle.

Confused by the situation, he got back into the car, only to realise that his bag, kept inside, was missing. He said the bag contained around Rs 1.5 lakh in cash along with important documents.

Pratham alerted the police via the emergency helpline. Investigators are now scanning CCTV footage from the area to identify the accused.
