AMRITSAR: Police have arrested notorious gangster Jagdeep Singh alias Jaggu Bagbanpuria wanted in two dozen cases. One of his accomplices Gargaj Singh was also nabbed here on Monday.
Border range IG Ishwar Chander Sharma said that both gangsters were traveling in different vehicles and were nabbed following pursuit and exchange of fire in which one policeman was injured.
IG Sharma said that following a tip-off that the gangster was going to deliver narcotics in the villages around Jyantipur, two police parties were constituted to chase the two criminals.
Police could only capture Jaggu and Gargaj while rest of their accomplices managed to escape. Police recovered three pistols, two rifles, around 700gm heroin and 1kg brown sugar from their possession.
In recent past, a police party had allegedly shot dead an Akali leader Mukhjeet Singh alias Mukha mistaking him to be Jaggu Bagbanpuria, following which an SIT was constituted to nab him.
Sharma said that during preliminary investigations, Jaggu admitted that he had escaped from police custody in 2013, along with his friends Jasbir Singh and Sony. He also admitted to freeing another gangster Sonu Kangla from police custody with the help of six others. "We are likely to get more information from him," the IG Sharma. Various police parties had been constituted on the basis of information received from Jaggu to nab rest of his accomplices, he said, adding that police had registered cases against both Jaggu and Gargaj.
