CHANDIGARH: Upping the ante against the AAP government in Punjab, the Congress and the
Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) met the governor separately to demand a CBI probe into the state’s criticism-ridden excise policy. SAD also sought a probe into what has come to be known as the mining scam.
A delegation of Congress, led by leader of opposition Partap Singh Bajwa, and an SAD delegation, led by party president
Sukhbir Badal, met Punjab governor
Banwarilal Purohit and submitted their respective memorandums.
Demanding a probe into Punjab’s excise policy, which allegedly has glaring similarities with the now-scrapped Delhi excise policy, Bajwa said the policy of Delhi had been called into question by the Enforcement Directorate and cases had been registered against perpetrators of the policy, so a similar action, was needed in Punjab.
