Jind/Rohtak/Hisar: People blocked traffic on national highways and roads at three places in Haryana on Friday over problems in water supply. The protests were staged separately and were the result of the government not resolving their issues, said the protesters.
In Bhiwani’s Naurangabad village, women blocked National Highway 709, which connects Pillani and Delhi, over no piped drinking water supply to the village.

Traffic on National Highway 52 was blocked in Jind by the residents of Danoda Kalan village, who have been seeking potable water supply in their village. Though not a highway, a busy road of Hisar was also blocked by residents of Padav Chowk area over supply of contaminated water.
The protests were lifted after local officials intervened. In Jind, commuters were stuck in a massive traffic jam on NH 709. People of the district had been facing an acute shortage of water this season, Uchana Kalan segment, which is represented by deputy chief minister Dushyant Chautala, is the worst-affected area. In the district, over 50 villages — including Thuwa, Badoda, Ghogariya, Badhana, Radhana, Nidana and many others — have been facing a problem of water supply. Officials blamed frequent electricity cuts for the situation
As residents of Danoda Kalan blocked traffic, police reached but villagers refused to lift the blockade.
A junior engineer of public health engineering department assured villagers of smooth supply in future, after which the protest ended.
