Punjab Civic Body Election Results 2026: AAP's work, Kejriwal's ideology helped party in Ramdas civic polls, says Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal on Friday credited the party’s strong performance in the Ramdas civic body polls to the Punjab government’s development work and the ideology of AAP national convenor Arvind Kejriwal.

Speaking to ANI on the civic body poll results, Dhaliwal alleged that opposition parties had come together against the AAP during the elections. "3 parties are working in alliance against us - ABC, which is Akali Dal, BJP and Congress. They levelled false allegations against us... But the work and development show, and the people have recognised the development done by Bhagwant Mann. The people of Ramadas preferred the ideology of Arvind Kejriwal," Dhaliwal said.

Meanwhile, SDM Charumita said results for all 11 booths in Ramdas had been declared. She said the Shiromani Akali Dal candidate managed to win only at booth number 8, while AAP candidates emerged victorious in the remaining booths.

"Results have been declared for the 11 booths of Ramadas, in which Akali Dal candidate won only on booth number 8, and AAP candidates won on the rest," Charumita told ANI.

Earlier in the day, counting of votes for the Punjab civic body elections began at multiple counting centres across the state amid elaborate security arrangements and heavy police deployment to ensure the process remained peaceful and smooth.

Polling for 75 Municipal Councils and 20 Nagar Panchayats across Punjab was held on May 26. A total of 7,555 candidates are in the fray for various Municipal Corporations, Municipal Councils and Nagar Panchayats across the state.

According to election officials, the Aam Aadmi Party fielded 1,801 candidates, while the Congress fielded 1,550 candidates. The Bharatiya Janata Party has 1,316 candidates contesting the polls, while the Shiromani Akali Dal fielded 1,251 candidates for the civic body elections.

Punjab Civic Body Election Results 2026: 'Punjab hold the real power', says AAP leader and party's Punjab in-charge Manish Sisodia

Reacting to the Punjab civic body poll results, AAP leader and party's Punjab in-charge Manish Sisodia says, “The people of Punjab hold the real power. They have once again shown their trust and respect for CM Bhagwant Mann and party chief Arvind Kejriwal, proving their support for our politics and governance. The public has clearly endorsed the work done during Chief Minister Mann’s four-year tenure. At the same time, voters have strongly rejected the ‘ED party’s’ style of politics, with 1,150 of their candidates losing their deposits. Let them continue with their agenda while Bhagwant Mann focuses on his work; the people of Punjab have once again showered him with immense support.”

On the BJP appointing a new state chief in Punjab, Sisodia says, “The BJP was celebrating its new appointment last night, but today, the voters of Barnala have left them disappointed. This sends a direct message to the organisation. They are no longer the BJP, but the ‘ED party.’ We should stop calling them the BJP because nothing of the original Bharatiya Janata Party remains. The public has sent a strong message to this ‘ED party’ that even in their new president’s own stronghold, there is no place for them. The people will decide the outcome in 2027, but our responsibility right now is to ensure that all our councillors and MLAs work together effectively to deliver excellent public service.”

Punjab Election Result 2026 Live Updates: The ultimate political litmus test

These local body elections serve as a critical direct barometer of public sentiment for the ruling AAP and a foundational battleground for opposition parties looking to regain momentum ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections.

The counting of votes for the Punjab Urban Local Body Elections 2026 has officially commenced, acting as a crucial political litmus test ahead of next year's Assembly polls. Following Tuesday's polling across 102 municipalities—encompassing Municipal Corporations, Municipal Councils, and Nagar Panchayats—the fate of 7,554 candidates contesting in 1,897 wards hangs in the balance.

The state recorded an overall voter turnout of 63.94%, with Nagar Panchayats yielding the highest participation at 76.18%, followed by Municipal Councils at 65.06% and Municipal Corporations at 59.91%. Heavily guarded counting centres, including eight specialized hubs in Mohali, have been fortified under strict law enforcement to eliminate unauthorized access.

While leaders from the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) express deep confidence in securing majorities to drive regional developmental changes, opposition forces—including the Congress, Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)—have fiercely pushed back.

Opposition factions have filed formal complaints with the District Election Officer, alleging gross misuse of administrative machinery, voter intimidation, and violations of ballot secrecy, ensuring that the results unfold under an atmosphere of intense political rivalry.
