Punjab: Woman ASI posted at Patiala arrested with 50 gram heroin

PATIALA: The Tarn Taran police on Tuesday arrested a woman ASI posted at Patiala in Punjab and recovered 50 grams of heroin from her possession.Renu Bala, who was posted at the Urban Estate police post of Patiala, was arrested by the narcotic cell of Patti Police in Tarn Taran district. The ASI was on medical leave and had gone to meet her acquaintance Nishan Singh when she was arrested. Nishan Singh has also been arrested.Patiala SSP MS Sidhu said following her arrest a departmental probe has been ordered against the concerned SHO for his failure to check the use of drugs by the ASI. Without ruling out the possibility of Renu Bala being involved in drug peddling, the SSP said the investigations to be carried out by the Tarn Taran police will bring out all the facts. He said weather she had any links with any gangsters or drug traffickers is also being investigated. It was learnt that Renu had been posted at the Urban Estate Police post on June 19, 2019, and had recently proceeded on medical leave. From the preliminary investigations, it had come to light that Renu would often visit Nishan Singh. Renu maintained a lavish lifestyle and had invested heavily in the real estate, the sources said. Meanwhile, the SSP has issued a curricular asking all officers to keep an eye on their subordinates to ensure that no policemen indulged in any illegal activities.
