LUDHIANA: The acting vice-chancellor of the Punjab Technical University (PTU), Romila Dubey, has termed the allegations levelled against her by former Punjab technical education minister Jagdish Singh Garcha as false and malicious.
Dubey said on Saturday that the allegations that she had received bribes for closing the distance education centre were motivated and not based on facts.
Dubey said that the Vigilance Bureau was probing into the various irregularities committed at the PTU and investigations were at an advanced stage. She said that these allegations were being made to stall the vigilance probe.
Dubey said that PTU had opened study centres all over the country which were found lacking in adequate number of teachers, books, computers and quality education. As many as 25 study centres had merely one faculty member against 470 students, she said. ‘‘Moreover, these faculty members are mere diploma holders, with no experience,’’ she added.
Dubey said that she repeatedly got desperate calls from far off places like Bihar and Uttaranchal, complaining about the sub standard education imparted at these centres. She also said that the media wrongly quoted her while stating that she had tried to close down these centres.
