Tension at Lalru booth over alleged bogus votes
Mohali: Tension gripped a polling station in Lalru Tuesday after three women were accused of casting bogus votes during the municipal council elections in ward no. 12.
The incident at the Govt Senior Secondary Smart School led to chaos, with supporters of rival parties gathering outside the booth and raising objections over the alleged fake voting. Senior political leaders soon reached the spot with their supporters.
Congress leader Deepinder Singh Dhillon, BJP leader Sushil Rana and Parminder Sharma, brother of former MLA NK Sharma, protested and raised slogans, alleging irregularities in the polling process.
As tempers flared and workers engaged in heated arguments, heavy police force was deployed to prevent escalation.
SP Bikramjit Singh Brar, along with other senior officers, reached the spot and brought the situation under control. He said the three women had been detained and further action was being taken.
Police said the matter is under investigation and appropriate action will follow based on the inquiry findings.
