CHENNAI: Two special sub-inspectors of the suburban police were suspended on Monday on charges of taking Rs 10,000 as bribe from a garment factory owner, the police said on Tuesday.
According to deputy police commissioner M John Chellaiah, the suspend policemen were Arul Das (51) of Korattur and Anil Udith (54) of Ambattur. Normally, those promoted to the post of sub-inspector from head constable are designated special sub-inspector.
The police said Anirudh (38), a garment factory owner, registered a complaint with the Korattur police last month seeking action against one of his employees who had allegedly run away with some valuable equipment from his factory.

The two officials now suspended handled the case, the police said.
"When both of them were at the Korattur police station, they took action against that complaint and arrested the accused. Then they allegedly took a bribe of Rs 10,000 to release the accused," John Chellaiah told The Times of India. A preliminary inquiry confirmed the offence, he said. "But a departmental inquiry will be conducted. Their subordinates will now take care of their works," he added.
