CHENNAI: A businessman, who was kidnapped by a four-member gang for a ransom of Rs 1 crore in Chennai, was rescued on Thursday.
Nagarajan, 40, was beaten up and abandoned near Athipattu after the kidnappers came to know that police were on a hot pursuit for them.
Nagarajan, who runs an export firm near Chennai Beach railway station, was on his way to his office when a gang intercepted his car and took him in another vehicle on Tuesday afternoon.

He was attacked and asked to make a phone call to his wife. When he called his wife using his cellphone, a gang member demanded a ransom of Rs 1 crore to release her husband. His wife, Jenitha, alerted the police.
When police started searching the businessman and the gang that abducted him using the mobile tower location, they abandoned him near Athipattu. Police rescued Nagarajan.
The businessman alleged that a senior police officer was behind his abduction. He said he was not in good terms with the officer who had been his business partner two years ago.
Police suspect the involvement of a usury gang and a rowdy from Vysarpadi.
Police have detained two men in connection with the abduction.
