CHENNAI: Soon, yoga will be part of the new BEd course which has been extended to a two-year course. Authorities felt that the one-year BEd course was not up to the mark and the training given was not enough.
A government order was passed on June 19 regarding this and the Tamil Nadu Teachers Education University has approved the curriculum. "The main aim was to change teachers' attitude towards learning.

It will develop their aptitude too," an official said.
The new curriculum will lay emphasis on yoga, health education, arts and craft and there will be 16 papers instead of 12. "We have received feedback from teachers for the curriculum we had framed at the testing level. Changes are being made accordingly. We will bring out the new curriculum soon," said authorities in the University.
Teachers say that this would give aspirants time to work on their skills and improve connectivity with students. "Earlier, along with our main subjects, we had to bring in psychology, value addition lessons, physical science, art and crafts and practical training into this one year course. Now with two years in hand, students can learn class control and gain subject knowledge," said Shamma Charles, a Class 12 teacher in the city.
