Chennai corpn extends pet licence regn, renewal deadline till June 15
Chennai: The deadline for obtaining licences for pet dogs and cats in Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) limits has been extended till June 15, corporation commissioner J Kumaragurubaran announced on Tuesday. The corporation warned that from June 16, owners of unlicensed dogs and cats would face a penalty of 5,000.Under urban local body rules, obtaining a licence for pet animals within corporation limits has been made mandatory. The corporation said it has introduced an upgraded online portal to simplify and speed up the licensing process for pet owners. Pet owners have been advised to use the portal to obtain fresh licences and renew pending ones before the deadline.The earlier deadline for obtaining licence expired on Dec 14 last year. However, GCC has issued licences for 78,392 pets so far. Of these, 9,656 licences have not been renewed. The corporation said free microchipping, anti-rabies vaccination and guidance for obtaining licences are being provided at 11 centres run by the corporation. These include dog birth control centres at Tiruvottiyur, Chettimedu in Manali zone, and Kannappar Thidal in Periamet zone, and pet treatment centres at Thiru Vi Ka Nagar, Pulianthope, Lloyds Colony, Nungambakkam, Kannammapet and Meenambakkam.
