CHENNAI: Chennai Metro Rail Ltd (CMRL) on Thursday tested a four-coach train on a ramp that connects Koyambedu depot to the elevated Koyambedu-St Thomas Mount line.
The train was driven from the depot to the ramp and back to the depot a few times as part of the trial run. Senior officials and other staff of CMRL travelled on the train.
Earlier, the train was being tested on a test track installed in the depot at Koyambedu after chief minister J Jayalalithaa inaugurated its test run two months ago.
The trains should be tested several times on the test track and on the line before inducting them into service.
Tracks and electrical overhead cable have been installed up to Ashok Nagar on the elevated Koyambedu-St Thomas Mount line, said a CMRL official.
The trial was supposed to start early this month but was postponed because stations and line were not ready.
Metro's trains require extensive trial because they are highly automated and run on pre-fed information like speed and stations where they should stop.
