Chennai to get multi-speciality pet hospital, ornamental fish trade centre

CHENNAI: The Tamil Nadu government will establish an advanced multi-speciality hospital and research centre at

Nandanam

in Chennai for pets at a cost of Rs 7.99 crore. It would also document the native breeds of dogs, minister for fisheries-fishermen welfare and animal husbandry

The government would also establish an

ornamental fish

trade centre at

Kolathur

in Chennai. It would come up at Rs 50 crore.

The trade centre would be established with contribution from both government and private players, said the minister during the debate on demand for grants for the department.

The minister said nearly 2,000 families were doing ornamental fish business in Kolathur. The upcoming facility would further extend support to people involved in the trade. It would support them on a large scale in export and logistics, said the minister.
